Canals and Windmills

I'm home!

What a lovely little trip; considering the fact that on Sunday night I was prepared not to board the plane the following morning!

You see late on Sunday evening I was told the news that one of my closest friends had sadly lost his life, in his home town in Plattsburg NY. I'm very glad however that Chris managed to convince me that my friend Joe wouldn't want me to stay at home, he was a traveller and loved to visit new places and had often urged me to do the same and he would want me to go.

So I got up on Monday morning and headed to the airport with Chris and set off for my first holiday since a 2 day trip to Lourdes in 2005 just after my Dad died. I was incredibly excited but had mixed emotions flowing and didn't know wether to laugh or cry!

As the plane began to taxi I realised I had developed a rather extreme fear of flying and that's when the tears began, but no sooner were we up, than we were back down on land again this time at Schiphol airport.

We had a fabulous break away, visiting famous tourist site but the highlight for me, was our day in Zaanse Schans, visiting the windmills, oh my word it was so beautiful.

I just wish I'd taken my camera away with me, but as its pretty new I didn't want to risk the journey with it, so had to make do with phone images.

I would love to return to Amsterdam again, and perhaps do Rotterdam and The Hague too.

Thank You Chris for encouraging me to take a leap and to embrace life!
